Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy: Interventional Modalities

Sympathetic Blocks, Botox, and Neurostimulation

Interventional pain management modalities are important treatment options to consider for diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).  As a primary care provider, you have to know when to refer your patient to a pain specialist for interventional modalities.  In this video roundtable from Practical Pain Management, pain specialists discuss current interventional modalities that are used for DPN.

The following is discussed, among other treatments:

  • sympathetic blocks
  • Botox
  • neurostimulation (currently used in the European Union for vascular disease)

Joseph Shurman, MD moderates the discussion; he is the Chairman of Pain Management at Scripps Memorial Hospital (La Jolla, CA).

Dr. Shurman is joined by Sunil J. Panchal MD.  He is President of the National Institute of Pain in Lutz, FL.
