About Scott D. Mist, PhD

Dr. Mist is an assistant professor of anesthesiology and of perioperative medicine in the School of Medicine and an assistant professor in the School of Nursing at Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, Oregon.

His research focuses on complementary methods of managing pain and related symptoms, and mechanisms responsible for central sensitivity of pain. Dr. Mist relies on acupuncture to explore the complex changes in and responses to chronic pain, particularly in fibromyalgia, chronic widespread pain, and temporomandibular joint disorders. He aims to expand the evidence basis for nonpharmaceutical approaches to treat chronic pain.

He received a master’s degree from Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and a doctorate from Portland State University, in Portland, Oregon.
