About Shahead Chowdhury, PhD, MBBS

Dr. Shahead Chowdhury studied medicine at Dhaka University in Bangladesh. Following graduation, he worked in the Bangladesh Institute of Research for Promotion of Essential & Reproductive Health and Technologies, an epidemiological research institute, as a research physician responsible for the identification and quantification of health problems regarding family planning and reproduction. He subsequently worked as Resident Medical Officer in the Department of Pediatrics of Dhaka Medical College, one of Bangladesh’s leading public hospitals. Starting in 1998, he worked on his PhD in Japan to elucidate the mechanism of diabetes protection in anti-ICAM-1/LFA-1 mAb or anti-CD8mAb treated diabetes-prone NOD mice. In 2003, he returned to Bangladesh and worked as Resident Medical Officer at the Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders. Chowdhury returned to Japan to the Meikai Pharmaco-Medical Laboratory of Meikai University School of Dentistry as a staff researcher in 2004. In June 2006, he joined James Cook University, Townsville, Australia, as academic staff. Since March 2010, he has been working as a Researcher in Pain Management Clinic of the Townsville Hospital of Queensland Health.
