About Sayed Emal Wahezi, MD

Dr. Wahezi earned his medical degree from the University at Buffalo’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Montefiore Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. 

He then completed an interventional spine fellowship at Spine Technology and Rehabilitation under the mentorship of Dr. Joseph D. Fortin. Following that, Dr. Wahezi completed a pain medicine fellowship at Montefiore, where he was key to the development of the Interventional Spine Division.

Dr. Wahezi currently serves as Assistant Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and is the program director of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Accredited Interventional Pain Fellowship at Montefiore.

He has created a fellowship with an interventional focus and multidisciplinary foundation. His mission is to create an academic environment that fosters the growth of interventional pain through the investigation and development of new devices and techniques.     

Dr. Wahezi is a long-standing member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP) and serves on ASIPP’s Department Chairs and Program Directors Committee.  He is a nominated American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation delegate representative for the American Medical Association’s Expert Panel on Pain Management.  He also serves as a member of the Academy of Academic Physiatrists’ Program for Academic Leadership, and is co-founder of the Basic Sciences Pain Committee at Montefiore.
