About Karon F. Cook, PhD

Karon Cook, PhD is a research professor in the Department of Medical Social Sciences, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. Dr. Cook has made substantial contributions to health outcomes research. Her work focuses on modern psychometric approaches and, in recent years, on the measurement of self-reported pain and its correlates. Dr. Cook has been an investigator with NIH’s Patient Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS) since 2005 and published more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles related to PROMIS measures and science.

Dr. Cook served on the PROMIS investigative teams that developed the NIH sponsored PROMIS item banks for measuring pain interference, behavior, and quality. She is currently working with the Department of Defense on the Pain Assessment Screening Tool and Outcomes Registry, which is being developed to improve pain care within the military health system.
