Don L. Goldenberg, MD, FACP

Practical Pain Management is pleased to announce the latest addition to our team of respected pain educators and dedicated leaders in their fields. Dr. Goldenberg will assist us in our mission to provide practical, cutting-edge information to help practitioners improve patient care.

As one of the nation’s leading authorities on fibromyalgia and other poorly understood illnesses including chronic fatigue syndrome, migraine, and depression, Dr. Goldenberg has evaluated and treated more than 25,000 patients during the past 30 years in an international center he established in Boston, Massachusetts.

Chief of Rheumatology at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine from 1989 to 2016, Dr. Goldenberg is currently living on the west coast where he serves as a member of the Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Medicine and the School of Nursing at Oregon Health Services University in Portland. As of June 1, he will also be Professor of Medicine, Emeritus, at Tufts University School of Medicine.

The recipient of numerous medical accolades, Dr. Goldenberg was honored in 2008 with the prestigious Marian Ropes Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing excellence in arthritis care from the Massachusetts Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation and was selected as a Master of the American College of Rheumatology in 2009.

Dr. Goldenberg has published more than 200 articles in scientific journals covering many areas of arthritis and rheumatology. His book, Fibromyalgia, A Leading Expert’s Guide to Understanding and Getting Relief from the Pain that Won’t Go Away (Perigee, 2002), sold more than 20,000 copies in the US and more in the UK (Piatkus).

Dr. Goldenberg has been included in each edition of The Best Doctors in America and selected as one of the “Best Doctors in Boston” by Boston Magazine. His medical expertise has made him widely sought out for commentary on national and local television. He’s been interviewed on the “Today” show and “Good Morning America” and his work on chronic illnesses has been covered in the New York Times, The Boston Globe and the New Yorker.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin Medical School, Dr. Goldenberg served his internship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and his residency at the Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center, both located in the Bronx, New York. He completed his postgraduate training with a clinical and research fellowship in Rheumatology at Boston University School of Medicine.

Dr. Goldenberg has just completed his latest book covering all aspects of identifying and treating fibromyalgia and related diseases entitled: Chronic, Widespread Pain: Lessons Learned from Fibromyalgia and Related Disorders.
